Do you set up the guitars you sell?

We don't just set up the guitars. First of all the guitar is thoroughly examined for any kind of cosmetic or geometric issues. Once we are happy the guitar is built correctly then the setup will begin.

The setup you receive on your guitar is extremely comprehensive covering intonation, action, removal of sharp burs on frets, evening of fret heights if necessary, treatment of the board and changing the strings to suit the customers personal requirements.

I have heard you reset the guitars later on too?

That is correct. We offer a free follow up service in 6 and 12 months whereby we check and reset the guitar. These follow up checks are valued at £25 each. The initial setup is worth £55 making the whole workshop added value per sale a wopping great £100. This is unique in my industry.

How do I know the guitar will arrive safely when ordering online?

You could not be in safer hands due to my fanatical approach! I personally handle the order from beginning to end. I personally wrap and pack every guitar ensuring the guitar can cope with even the most rugged journeys to your door. Years of experience have helped me know exactly how to pack a box to ensure the guitar gets to you safely - I even give advice to my suppliers on what they do wrong! It may sound sad but I genuinely enjoy the process of packing the box with the knowledge that the guitar will soon be arrriving with the customer - the final process of a job well done!

What is "live help"?

It is a real time chat facility that you can instigate by the click of a button via my website. You should see the logo telling you when I am online in the bottom right hand corner of the site.

This is your way of communicating with me day or night almost 24/7 - pre or post sale. If it is showing I am online it will be ME you are talking to - not some random sales guy. I will be dealing with you pre sale, during the sale and post sale - always in person any time of the day.

When can I find you in store?

My official hours are 10am to 5.30pm. I close for one hour at lunch and on Wednesday and Sunday.

My hours in store can obviously vary as I literally run all aspects of the business by myself (I have two technicians). Family life, health and business aspects can all take me away from the shop during my advertised hours so it is always useful to call me on 01789 26 33 33 if you are travelling. I would ask you to do this anyway so I can prepare for your arrival.

How long will my guitar take to arrive?

Well the first thing I say when asked this question is "Be very wary of ordering a guitar from anywhere that suggests your guitar will be with you the next day". Obviously because if they offer this promise you know full well the guitar remains totally unchecked and you are asking for issues.

I tend to dispatch guitars on Tuesdays and Thursdays - those are my key days. I don't like to send a guitar out on a Friday as it means having the guitar stuck in a depot over the weekend which is not good for the guitar on a number of levels. We are generally working to 2-3 days of workshop time ahead so the time it takes for your guitar to arrive will depend on when in the week you order, how busy the workshop is and availability of the guitar - needless to say I am only a click away via the live help facility if you need to know anything at any time. Realistically I would suggest a wait of 7 days is fairly typical but of course if you give me notice of any urgency it is "possible" to order in the morning and have the guitar for you the next day - but this obviously is in emergenices - but can theoretically be accomodated.

I have a fixed charge for all of Europe - £15

Other countries are all considered and I can quote for delivery. You just have to ask.

When you buy a guitar from Richards guitars the first thing to take into account is that I (Richard) overseas the entire process beginning to end. The only aspect not handled by myself is the setup itself. I even personally pack the guitar after I have tested the guitar post setup.

Quality Control & Setup (worth £55)

Your guitar will be meticulously setup to the very highest of standards - even to your personal specification if you have one. This only occurs once the guitar has been inspected visually for any cosmetic flaws that occur in production instruments. Nobody in the industry cares more about the quality and playability of their guitars - guaranteed.

6 Month & 12 Month Checkup/Reset (worth £25 a visit)

Every day my workshop is responsible for checking guitars that have been brought back for their 6 and 12 month checks. During this process my technicians will check the setup, make any adjustments necessary and give the guitar a general overhaul bringing it back to its former glory. This healthcheck sets my service apart from all other retailers in the UK. I believe this service to be unique and am extremely proud to offer it to every customer if they wish to take advantage.

For Showroom Visitors...

I offer a bespoke service and deal with every sale personally. I follow the progress of each sale from beginning to end, personally book deliveries for dispatch and wrap and pack the guitars. I do this to provide a consistent, meticulous level of detail, giving myself the peace of mind that the beautifully setup guitars we generate do not get spoilt in transit. 1 guitar damaged in 3 years of delivering guitars around the World (around 10 a week) is testiment to the quality of my packing (Sad as it sounds I could bore you to death on how to deliver a guitar sucessfully!). This all takes up my time of course. For this reason I DO NOT promote the sale of accessories. My showroom opening hours enable customers to try and test my personal collection of recommended new and used guitars - whilst allowing me time to handle the various aspects of my customer enquiries (in store and online) - and of course deal with customers requiring guitar workshop repairs.

I DO NOT sell 3/4 size guitars. It is impossible to provide any level of taylored service at this price point and would feel nervous about supporting these guitars under warranty as they are built to a price. However, I will always be available to offer help and advice. I am here if you want some honest, professional direction.
